Phonics: short and long vowels
- If there is only onevowel in the word , then it will make the short sound.
- If there are two vowels, then the first vowel will make the long sound and the second one the short sound or will be quiet or silent.
EXAMPLE :
The word "cap" has only one vowel "a"- Then it makes its short sound.
The word "cape" has two vowels. So the first vowel "a"makes the long sound and the second one "e" stays silent.
