PHONETICS CORNER

Phonics: short and long vowels

  1. If there is only onevowel in the  word , then it will make the short sound.
  2. If there are two vowels, then the first vowel will make the long sound and the second one the short sound or will be quiet or silent.
EXAMPLE :
The word "cap" has only one vowel "a"- Then it makes its  short sound.
The word "cape" has two vowels. So the first vowel "a"makes the long sound  and the second one "e" stays silent.
